Rules, the unabridged version.

If you are looking for a much shorter version of the rules, you can head on over to the [community profile] gabrielsam profile.

Looking for something specific?
what you can poston wankon spoilerson cuts
on headersthe crazy tagging systemabout author/reccer tags
on warnings & ratingshet, slash & femslashbut I still have a question!

what you can post

This is a Gabriel/Sam community. As long as both Gabriel and Sam are prominent in your fanwork, feel free to post.

Fanworks of all shapes and colors are more than welcomed. Fanfiction, graphics (art, icons, manips, walls, picspams), fanmixes and fanvids have been added to the tags list. If you want to show off your awesome other fanworks? We'd be more than happy to have them.

Recs to offsite fanworks are ALWAYS welcome. Use the promoting tags. Promoting tags can be made more specific, but as of July 30, 2010 there is a promoting tag for promoting: communities (such as that RP group you're trying to promote, or some other comm that needs more attention) and promoting: fic recs (for those awesome Gabriel/Sam fics that haven't been posted here. Encourage writers to come join us!).

In terms of pairings, threesomes and moresomes like Gabriel/Sam/Jess or Gabriel/Sam/Dean/Castiel can fly here. If Gabriel and Sam feature romantically in your story, any other add ons to the pairing is fine. (Side pairings, say, Gabriel/Sam with side Dean/Lisa are equally cool.)

If you have Sam is deciding how to hunt down the Trickster in Mystery Spot, that's great. If Gabriel is snapping Sam into different realities; awesome. If Dean is starting to see unresolved sexual tension between Gabriel and Sam and laughs about how they can't see it, lovely.

Gabriel in any of his incarnations is more than welcome. If he was always a Trickster and never an Archangel? Sounds great. Never left heaven and remained an Archangel? Lovely. Didn't have any supernatural inclinations at all, and was only ever a janitor? Delicious. Any facet of his identity is welcome.

Crossovers are welcome, just so long as Gabriel/Sam features a part of the main pairing.

RPS and breaking of the fourth wall is also accepted: Jared/Richard, Jared/Gabriel, Richard/Sam - all equally cool.

on wank

No wank. Civilized discussion is awesome, but this is not the place to get into a giant wank fest.

I think this is self explanatory, personally. This is a friendly community to help gather Gabriel/Sam fanworks in one easily accessible area. Not to provide bitching grounds.

on spoilers

No one likes to be spoiled. Please, place it behind a cut. Not everyone has the same viewing schedule that you do. As of July 30, 2010, season six spoilers need to be under a cut and clearly labeled so that people know what they're getting into. The !spoilers tag would also be appreciated.

I don't think I can emphasize this enough. I know that there are people that don't mind spoilers. (In fact, I am actually one of them.) But there is also a larger majority that DESPISE any and all spoilers or who want to know what they're getting into. Let's use some netiquette and honor those wishes.

on cuts

Cuts are appreciated. Fanfiction more than 200 words probably needs a cut. 3 icons are great for previews. Thumbnails for larger pieces of art. Picspams need a cut.

In the event that you don't know how to use a cut, first, don't feel bad. I am right in that boat with you, because it took me forever to learn too. And second, here's how!

To make a cut with the HTML Editor, type <cut> before the text you want to hide under a cut, then </cut> when you want your text to appear on the page as normal. You can add text to the cut text link by entering <cut text="your text here"> If you're using the Rich Text Editor, highlight the text you want to appear behind a cut then click the "Cut" button. A pop-up box will appear so you can add your own text to the cut text link.

I totally ganked that explanation from here.

Cuts should be used to keep reading pages easily manageable. If you post your entry and then come back to look at it within the community, you shouldn't be scrolling way down the page to see all of your text. That type of entry deserves a cut. Image heavy entries should also have a cut to keep those poor dial-up users from wanting to blast our community when it takes them 2.83 hours to load the page.

on headers

Headers are awesome. If you have your own, feel free to use them. If you don't, you can use this handy dandy one.

Headers are kind of universal. Most communities require them. If you are posting a single embedded youtube video, I'm probably not going to expect a header (but feel free to add one if you want!). If you are posting a meta on Sam's influence over Gabriel, I would probably expect a very different kind of header. I understand that art headers are very different from fic headers, too. Again, if you have a header system for displaying your own work, that's great; USE IT.

the crazy tagging system

So, the tags system is actually pretty extensive. Browse through and tag what is applicable. If you'd like more specific tags, that's great! The !author tag and !need tags tags will automatically put you on a list and make sure that you're not missed. (However, I will likely be hunting through posts on a daily basis, so completely untagged entries will probably get tagged anyways.)

TAGS. Are very cool. I love tagging (o hai thar, ocd). It also makes types of stories easier to find, which is just a bonus. The most common tags will be under the headers of "character", "fanfiction", "genre", "period", "rating", "status", and "warning".

If your story is a chaptered fic about Gabriel and Sam as the events of Mystery Spot unfold, going into explicit detail concerning Dean's multiple deaths, you should probably be tagging character: dean winchester, character: gabriel: trickster!gabriel, character: sam winchester, fanfiction: chaptered, genre: angst, genre: dark, period: season 3: 11.mystery spot, rating: r, status: work in progress, warning: character death and warning: extreme violence.

It looks like a lot, but it really isn't. I suggest posting your entry and then clicking the "edit tags" button, where you will get a nice box of all the tags you can use.

The box will look somewhat like this:

Simply select the tags that are applicable. (On macs, you will need to press the command/apple key (⌘ or ) to select more than one at a time. On PCs, you will need to press the control (Ctrl) key to select more than one at a time.)

And again, if you require more tags, that's great. Either drop a comment at this post, or tag your entry with !need tags and leave a small note of the tags you require at the end of your post.

about author/reccer tags

Author tags and reccer tags! If you would like to be able to find all of the fic you have posted here fast, I would be more than happy to give you an author tag. It would look like this author: yournamehere in the tags list. Alternatively, if for some reason you don't want an author tag, that's fine too. They're completely optional. (Although you might need to smack me and tell me that you don't want one, because I will automatically tag new authors.)

Reccer tags are also open. Again, they would look like this reccer: yournamehere in the tags list. You will HAVE to ask for these, I won't tag them by myself. Just tag your entry with !author tag and I'll be pleased to add you.

on warnings & ratings

Warnings are important! Check out the warnings & ratings tags and make sure to use them! If you need a warning tag that isn't listed drop us a comment!

Ratings are pretty standard. If you are posting art, please avail yourself to the rating: worksafe or rating: nsfw tags.

If you are posting fiction, then here is how the ratings are broken down.

G - "All ages admitted." This would probably be gen fic. It's something you wouldn't mind showing your five-year-old cousin, who is promptly going to tell their parents all about that great story you just told them.

PG - "Parental guidance suggested." This would probably be a day-in-the-life fic. Maybe some light swearing and a couple of punches thrown around.

PG-13 - "Parents strongly cautioned." If it runs along the same lines as Tall Tales (2.15), then it's probably PG-13. Mystery Spot (3.11) was leaning more towards the end of PG-13, possibly a lower R.

R - "Restricted". Unexplicit or implied sex, nookie in the hotel room that was interrupted. Dean tied up and being drained of blood by the djinn in season 2, episode 20. If it would give an 18-year-old nightmares, it probably needs to be moved up a level.

NC-17 - "No One Under 17 Admitted". Down and out porn, extreme violence, supremely dark themes... All that goes here. We accept all those fics with open arms, but they need to be CLEARLY LABELED.

het, slash & femslash

As this is a Gabriel/Sam community, it goes without saying that we are going to be seeing a homosexual relationship. The genre: slash tag is going to be getting a lot of use. However, there are still opportunities for slash and femslash, either in possible threesomes or side pairings, or even genderswitch. The tags genre: femslash and genre: het also work great.

but I still have a question!

Something still confusing you? Just have some general suggestions? Not enough time to actually read through the entire list? That's okay!

Feel free to send a direct message to me ([personal profile] anaraine) or just comment in this entry. I'll answer as quickly as possible, and any question is a-okay with me. I promise I don't bite!
